Only limited historic cemeteries remain in San Francisco; all others have been moved south of the city. San Francisco exists posthumously in Colma, California - a peculiar amalgam of life, death, ethnicity, religion, consumerism, tourism, and zoning. Sandwiched between the immaculately landscaped estates, which could be easily mistaken for castles and resorts, are the flower shops and headstone suppliers that are necessary to complete the economic community of the dead. These cards are mementos of that liminal destination.
